Avanti Sigma IV

Picture courtesy of Ian Hughes from Walsall

The Avanti Sigma 4 was probably the best omni-directional base station antenna ever built.

The design was simble, robust, and extremely effective. The performance was legendary, and anyone fortunate enough to own one would probably have worked all around the world back in the '80's.

There were several copies such as the Tagra BT-104, Comet 444, Saliut 27, and the Sirio Vector 4000, but these later variants were not as capable of wind survival as the original Avanti Sigma 4.

A picture of the original Avanti Sigma IV can be viewed here.

If anyone has any more original pictures of this true classic antenna, perhaps they would be kind enough to share them with us here.

If you have any pictures or information, please email us with your experiences.

I had one in perfect condition, it had been made up from original bits and pieces i had bought over the years, it was in storage in my dads shed but went missing, he either chucked it or it was stolen? Gutted as these are rarer than rocking horses, all thats left is a spare ring, i don't expect i'll ever find one again, i had searched for years to find that one, before that i had a fake and before that a silver rod. All were 45ft up on scaffold poles.
