Harvard H410T 40 Ch Handheld

The portable age had arrived, and now you could roam the villages and towns speaking to all your mates on the CB, courtesy of this little gem the Harvard H410T 40 channel handheld.
.
With a telescopic whip not too dis-similar to a netball post, you could now poke people in the eye, and twang every branch along the pavement...as you went to the bank to get a wallet full of crispy pound notes!!
.
Proudly stepping out of the shoe shop wearing your new Pod shoes that you had just bought with the crispy £1 notes, you were blissfully unaware of the pile of dog mess on the pavement as you "copied" a local "breaker"....well you can work the rest out for yourself....Not even a whole can of Brut 33 deodorant would shift the smell!!
.
When the inevitable happened, and the telescopic whip gave up the ghost, we used to pull out the remaining segments of the antenna just leaving the bottom 1/2 " poking out of the handheld. This was about 1/2" in diameter, and a Modulator, Z27 Thorobred, or Cherokee Half Breed fitted snugly in there and so off we went again......although this time looking out for the dog poo!!
.
Powered by 8 x AA 1.5 Volt batteries [with 2 plastic dummy batteries inserted in the spare places] 10 x 1.2 Volt rechargeable batteries, or a 12 Volt plug in adapter, this would deliver 4 Watts of power long enough to ruin 2 pairs of Brogues!!
.
The Harvard H410T Handheld cost around the £40.00 mark in 1985.....ironically about the same price as a new pair of Pod shoes!!

Looby Lou and I hit Aberdeen from Broad Town with one of these and a freshly–charged set of NiCds using the stock telescopic whip. I'm sure we were at the other end of the solar cycle! :-)

those dummy bats were to prevent the user from obtaining more than the legal 4 watt output. lose the dummy's, stick 10 durecells in there, stand on may hill with your now illegal rig, and speak to germany.. Best 40 quid i ever spent.

What a load of tosh!!!

The dummy batteries were actually there because of the difference in voltage between normal AA batteries and the Ni-Cd variety and to prevent you frying the electronics.

Standard AA 8 x 1.5v = 12 volts
Ni-Cd AA 10 x 1.2v = 12 volts
