Original 7' Firestik

The original and best Firestik was probably one of the most sought after antennas around.
.
Available in mild to wild guises, my 7 footer did me proud on the back of my Mini Clubman Estate. The 7" magmount held it on top of the roof no problem at all as long as I drove everywhere at no more than 14MPH!
.
I remember once coming down from a local high spot, and took the bottom corner a bit too fast, only to hear a thud, as the antenna fell off the roof, and hit the side window!
Sadly, I never found the original red Firestik cap, so had to put a black cap on it instead.
.
Often imitated, the Firestik copy was easy to spot.... The original Firestik has PAL rolled into the metal base just above the 3/8 UNF thread, and just below the hexagonal bar section which holds the fiberglass. If you click on the picture above, it should enlarge enough in your browser to make out the PAL on the base.

Genuine 7ft (218cm) Firestiks retail here for US$30 (£15). Their Web site describes the 7ft model as a ¾λ and rates it at 700 Watts.
