This little gadget was in use all over the UK in the early 1980's.
You had your Sirtel Echo Microphone followers, and your RA201 Reverb crew, who would all get on the air and try to outdo each other.
The RA201 was never good in an environment where vibration was an issue; such as when out mobile. The slightest bump would result in a resounding boom and would completely drown out your audio for a second or two.
Although they required a 12 Volt feed [no need for an internal PP3 here!] they occasionally picked up a slight hum on the audio. The cure was, if you remember, to remove the black wire from the power source.
The RA201 unit I am told, was popular on SSB but only if low levels of echo were used.
I heard one of these once, on an old Cobra 148GTL-DX, belonging to a friend, and it sounded superb!!
A sample wav. file has been created here for your enjoyment!
Guaranteed to hum like a tramp on a hot day when used with a Bremi BRL 210, this unit cost £29.95 in 1983.
