The new toy on the block in the early 1980's was the Sirtel Power/Echo Microphone.Foolishly believed by many to increase your range, when in fact all it did was sent your signal to new heights of distortion, saw sales figures for this unit go through the roof.
People fell into the trap of turning them up in the belief they would be heard for miles around!
Sadly, for me, it meant that I could be heard over and over again in every TV in the village!!
Powered by a PP3 9v battery, This microphone had a slider on the front face to adjust the distortion level/voice volume level.
Whereas the echo level was adjusted by a small 50K potentiometer via the rear cover. A sample wav. file has been created here for your enjoyment!
